Fans eager to see Sooners in Cowboys Stadium

ARLINGTON, Texas — The night of the bowl selection show, Lane Farr was in a predicament. Rumors had been circling all morning and afternoon on where his favorite team, Oklahoma, would play in the postseason and he wanted to be there.

Everything from the Sugar Bowl to the Fiesta Bowl were possibilities.

But because Farr is a Dallas native, the only one that made sense as the Cotton Bowl. Even though he didn’t know if the Sooners would be chosen, he wasn’t going to take any chances.

The night of the selection show, he dialed up Stub Hub, ordered his Cotton Bowl tickets and typed in his credit card number. But he waited to push submit until it became official.

When Farr showed up to Cowboy Stadium on Friday for the 77th Annual Cotton Bowl to watch Oklahoma take on Texas A&M, he hoped it be just like seeing them play at Memorial Stadium, only bigger.

“I live here in the DFW area and can turn it into a weekend get away,” Farr said. “Be like our home stadium away from Norman. I love the fact the game is played here. I wish they could play more games here, since there are so many Sooners.”

Oklahoma has now appeared at Cowboy Stadium three times and are 1-2 in those games. But almost as important as their record is the fact each contest has been sold out.

More than 87,000 fans filled Cowboy Stadium for the Cotton Bowl. That includes selling out the standing room only sections. It was the second- most sold in the classic’s hstory. The combination of OU playing a team from Texas made the matchup a guaranteed success.

“Amazing how much more electric a bowl is when it stays regional,” ESPN’s Bomani Jones tweeted. “Perfect matchup for everyone in Dallas.”
