NORMAN — Oklahoma’s Sheldon Neuse and Mac James were both named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region team on Friday.
James, who recently signed with the Tampa Bay Rays after being selected in the sixth round of last week’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, was named the region’s first-team catcher.
Neuse, who was the Big 12 Conference’s Freshman of the Year this past season, was the first-team third baseman.
James batted .330 this season while playing catcher, first base, third base, left field and designated hitter. He started more games at catcher than any other position. He had the Sooners’ top batting averageand added 41 RBIs, 15 doubles and five home runs.
Neuse batted .304 in his first collegiate season. He drove in a team-high 47 runs, with a .571 slugging percentage. His 17 doubles, seven triples and seven home runs were all team highs.
OU, which went 29-29 this past season, has placed players on the All-Midwest Team for six straight seasons and have had multiple players honored in three of the last four years. Since 1952, the Sooners have had 80 players earn a spot on the ABCA all-district team.
