Moore may sell some OKC property

NORMAN — The Moore City Council will consider selling 160 acres of land at Indian Hills Road and Pennsylvania Avenue tonight. The item under consideration will be taken up at the regular Moore council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The sale is expected to be approved for top bidder, P.B. Odom for $1.6 million.

Finance Director Jim Corbett said the city was pleased with the opportunity to recoup its money.

Also bidding were Tony Meek of Meek Construction at $801,000 and Gene McKown of TGV Investments LLC III at $640,000.

Moore purchased the quarter section about seven years ago for more than $1 million after an engineering study identified the parcel as the best location for a new water treatment plant. The acreage is in Oklahoma City, however, and neighbors protested resulting in a failure for Moore to receive the appropriate permits.

The new facility was built adjacent to the old plant instead at 4000 S. Service Road. Now Moore is selling the land at Indian Hills and Penn as it is no longer needed.

Moore has 230 miles of water line, 34 active water wells, five water towers, one ground storage pump station, 2,000 fire hydrants and two water booster stations, according to city staff reports.
