Transcript takes home OPA awards

MIDWEST CITY — The Oklahoma Press Association presented its Better Newspaper Contest Awards on June 12-14 during the OPA Annual Convention at the Reed Center in Midwest City.

The Norman Transcript took home several first-place awards in Division 1, including news content, layout and design, advertising, sports coverage, photography and community leadership.

The Transcript was awarded second place for sales promotion, in-depth enterprise, personal columns and feature writing.

The Transcript secured fourth place wins for editorial comment and news writing.

Photographer Jay Chilton also won the 2013 OGE Photo Sweepstakes for a photo he took in November of Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Brian Orr tackling an OU fan who invaded Owen Field, interrupting play during the second half of the final home game of the season vs. Iowa State University.
