County board approves contracts for new fiscal year

NORMAN — Year-long vendor agreements for everything from legal services to pest control were approved by the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners on Monday.

Most agreements begin with the July 1 start of the county’s fiscal year. District 2 Commissioner Darry Stacy was absent from Tuesday’s meeting and his foreman Paul Meyer voted in his place.

District 3 County Commissioner Rusty Sullivan abstained on contracts that would commit the county beyond Jan. 1. Sullivan did not seek re-election.

The largest agreement was with Cleveland County Pre-Trial for release services, supervision and electronic monitoring for persons ordered by a judge. Cost is $365,000.

The second largest amount, $327,417 was for an agreement between the commissioners and District Attorney Greg Mashburn for legal advice and representation.

At least two assistant district attorneys regularly attend the commissioners’ weekly meeting. Additionally, the board approved an agreement between the county treasurer and Joe B. Lawter for outside legal counsel on bankruptcies. Lawter’s billing rate was set at $150 per hour plus expenses.

A resolution for Cleveland County to participate in a self-insurance group through the Association of Oklahoma County Commissioners was tabled. The cost was $355,595 for July 1 through June 30, 2015.

The board approved a contract with Sequoyah Enterprises Inc., to provide detention services at the Leflore County Juvenile Detention Center in Talihina at a cost of $23.26 per child per day.

Computer maintenance and support agreements were approved for the assessor’s office and the county clerk’s office. Pest control services were approved with Rod’s Pest Control for the sheriff’s office, field office in Slaughterville and the F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center.

The board accepted the Alcohol Beverage Tax of $39,382 and the county jail sales tax of $702,034.
