Oklahoma court OKs life sentence

OKLAHOMA CITY — The appeal of a 24-year-old Tulsan who was sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting in 2010 has been rejected by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals.

The appellate court handed down the decision Wednesday for Channen Ray Smith, who was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Dominique Jasper.

Tulsa police found Jasper and Carla Jefferson on Oct. 23. Both had suffered gunshot wounds after a man opened fire on them as they sat on a porch. Jasper died on Nov. 15 from his wounds.

Tulsa Police Department detectives arrested Smith following the shooting as he left a residence. Smith was taken into custody without incident.
