New Ashley Furniture opens

NORMAN — Ashley Furniture HomeStores cut the ribbon and opened its Norman store Wednesday morning at 2831 Conference Drive in the University North Park Shopping Center.

“I want to welcome you to the Norman community and wish you well,” said Mike Fowler, Norman Chamber of Commerce chairman.

Store officials, associates and chamber officials cut the ribbon on the store shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A store employee said 90 percent of the store’s workers are from Norman. The celebration will include grand-opening savings throughout the store, bonuses and special financing, said Anthony Thomas, manager of Ashley Furniture HomeStores for Oklahoma.

The 38,000-square-foot showroom offers more than 7,000 individual home furnishings items, including furniture for the living room, dining room, bedroom and home office.

“Ashley HomeStores is really a one-stop furniture shop, with a huge variety of choices for every room, from traditional to contemporary, and everything is a great value,” Thomas said. “In addition to furniture, we also carry rugs, mattresses and accessories, plus Ashley Kids and Ashley Sleep — Ashley’s children’s and mattress lines. You’ll be able to find everything you need for your home all in one store, available for pickup or delivery.”

Ashley Furniture was founded as a sales organization in 1945 with branches in Chicago and Goshen, Ind. The first locally owned and operated Ashley Furniture HomeStore opened in 1987 in Anchorage, Alaska.

With the addition of the Norman store, there will be 524 HomeStore locations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America and Japan.

“We’re excited about having a store in Norman,” Thomas said. “We think it will be a great match for the Ashley Furniture HomeStore concept. The location will also allow us to serve neighboring cities like Moore, Purcell, Blanchard, Noble, Tuttle and even Oklahoma City and Pauls Valley. We’ll actually be the closest HomeStore within more than a hundred miles.”
