NORMAN — Local businesses have come together once again to present The Ride to benefit the United Way of Norman.

On July 26, kids aged 3-8 years old will suit up and hop on customized Big Wheels in the Safety Town area of Sooner Mall. All riders must check in beginning at 8 a.m. and races will begin at 9 a.m.

The event was initiated by First American Bank and is sponsored by Sooner Mall, Citywide Mortgage, Flair Body Works, Nexus Productions Inc., Norman Regional Health System, Sports Talk 98.5 FM and 1400 AM, Rotary International and Bramlett & Associates Multimedia.

Businesses or individuals may register to participate in The Ride. Once registered, the business or individual is responsible for decorating a Big Wheel and providing a rider aged 3-8 years old for their Big Wheel. Riders will be divided by gender and age group. All participating children will receive a medal and riders in first, second and third place in each division will receive trophies. Additionally, trophies will be presented to the top three best-decorated trikes in the business division and the top three best-decorated trikes in the individual division.

To participate in The Ride, register a custom Big Wheel and tiny driver by Friday online at TheRideNorman.com. The registration fee of $50 will go directly to the United Way of Norman.

The Norman Fire Department and Norman Police Department will be in attendance and additional activities for children will be on hand. Music and emcee services are being provided by Nexus Productions, and SportsTalk 98.5 FM and 1400 AM will broadcast live from the event.
