Lake Hefner Parkway in OKC reopens

OKLAHOMA CITY — A section of the busy Lake Hefner Parkway in northwest Oklahoma City has reopened after a bomb squad investigated suspicious bags — one found on a bridge over the roadway and the other nearby.

Police had closed the parkway from Britton Road to the Northwest Expressway late Thursday morning, but reopened it shortly before 1 p.m.

Capt. Dexter Nelson told reporters the bags contained clothing, snacks and drinks and may have belonged to runners — although it was not clear how they wound up in those locations.

The parkway is one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city and connects with Interstate 44 to the south. It becomes Oklahoma Highway 74 to the north.
