NORMAN — Robin Hill Public School will host a “Severe Weather Safety Community Event” at 6:30 p.m. May 1 in the school’s gym, 4801 E. Franklin Road. The event is free and open to the public.
Featured speakers include Selynda Vass and Andrea Melvin.
Vass has 15 years experience in social services, including being a resource family trainer for the National Resource Center for Youth Services, and training teachers in their work with challenging children.
She is the author of “Camilla Chinchilla and the Heroes of the Tornado.” Inspired by the May 2013 Moore tornadoes, the book tells the story of a cheerful pet that rides out a storm with children that care for her. Vass will be available to sign copies of her book. Paperback books will be available for $10.
Melvin is a 1997 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in meteorology. She is the program manager for EarthStorm, the Oklahoma Mesonet's K-12 outreach program. She will be speak about severe weather safety and the use of weather maps to help educate children.
