Man arraigned after wife’s death

NORMAN — A judge on Wednesday denied bond for a 37-year-old Norman man formally charged with stabbing his wife to death with a kitchen knife early Saturday morning in their southeast Norman apartment.

Abid Sandhu, 37, was arraigned before Special Judge Steve Stice Wednesday afternoon. He was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly called 911, claiming he had just killed his wife, Sidra Sandhu.

When officers arrived to the address Sandhu provided, 3653 SE 24th Ave., they found a deceased female in the residence with multiple stab wounds, the affidavit filed with the charge states.

Police transported Abid Sandhu to the police department after he made incriminating statements about the incident, the affidavit said. During an interview with police, he admitted to the crime. Sandhu told police he and his wife were verbally arguing when he “lost it,” the document states. Norman police show no previous calls for service at the residence.

During formal arraignment Wednesday afternoon, the state requested that Sandhu be denied bond. Stice denied bond for Sandhu and provided him with information on setting a trial to have a bail amount set.

Sandhu said he does not plan on hiring a defense attorney and will be filling out the paperwork to get a court-appointed lawyer.

Saturday’s homicide marks the third in Norman this year.

Ethan Spruill, 22, of Norman, was charged Feb. 18 for shooting Aaron McCray, 22, and killing him at apartments on 1800 Cherrystone Street. Seven were charged earlier this month for the death of Justin Barnard, 24, at Barnard’s grandmother’s house on North Stewart Avenue.
