Lions to honor youth

NORMAN — The Norman Sooner Lions Club will honor youth Logan Richardson at the Oklahoma Lions annual state convention at 6:50 tonight at the NCED Conference Center on Highway 9.

Logan’s family was affected by the May 20, 2013, tornado that destroyed his school, Briarwood Elementary. Although his mother had picked him up from school just before the tornado struck, Logan wanted to help the children at Briarwood and at Plaza Towers Elementary by leading a campaign to raise funds to purchase bicycles for students at each school whose families were affected by the tornado.

On hand to help honor Logan at the convention will be his parents, his aunt and uncle, Norman Sooner Lions Valerie and Mark Adair, and other extended family members. Making the presentation will be Norman Sooner Lions Club President David Donaldson, who led his club volunteers in distributing the bikes to the children. The honored International Lions Club guests will be Past International President Clement and Jeanne Kusiak from Maryland.

Earlier in the convention, Oklahoma Lions will receive updates on disaster relief/recovery efforts by Lions utilizing donated funds and Lions Clubs International Foundation grants. Lions also will hear from Briarwood Elementary Principal Shelley McMillin and music instructor Amy Mann.
