NHS athletic director will now lead district

NORMAN — The Norman Public Schools Board of Education approved and announced T.D. O’Hara to be district athletic director following the June retirement of Frank Thompson, NPS’ current athletic director.

T.D. has been with NPS for four years as the Norman High athletic director and he previously was the district athletic director for four years at Plainview Public Schools in Ardmore.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to serve Norman Public Schools in this capacity and under the direction and cooperation of the fine leaders we have at the district level and at each school,” O’Hara said. “Athletics has always been a part of my life and I come from a family of educators and of administrators involved with secondary athletics.

“It’s been a pleasure working for and learning from Mr. Thompson these past four years, and I look forward to building on his solid foundation while challenging our coaches with new ideas.”

During his career, O’Hara also has been the head high school baseball coach for Plainview High School and Tecumseh High School, and he has coached middle school and high school basketball. He was the 2013 president-select for the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

Thompson said he was confident O’Hara was ready to assume the helm of NPS athletics and that he would be successful in the job.

NPS colleague and Norman North Principal Bryan Young agreed.

“T.D and I have worked together on numerous athletic events over the years, and I have all the confidence in the world in him,” Young said.

O’Hara earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and his Master of Education from East Central University in Ada. In addition to physical education, he is certified to teach secondary social studies.
