A day after sweating out a late victory, OU (45-10, 16-2) cruised to a 7-0 lead through two innings on Sunday before Oklahoma State (26-28, 5-13) began to fight back, first on a two-run home run by Ari Morrison and then a solo shot by Gessenia DeLaCruz in the fourth inning. But the Sooners answered with a run and the Sooners added three more, including a home run by Erin Miller, to clinch the run-rule in the bottom half of the fifth.
While the game didn’t change anything in the conference race, it was important for OU to end the regular season on a high note before the NCAA selection committee announced its final seedings for the postseason.
The Sooners will open the postseason at home this weekend as they try to win their fifth regional in a row.
“Whatever comes our way we’re going to be ready to give it everything we have,” Gasso said.
