Tribal ag program brings farm to casino

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Quapaw Tribe has started an agriculture program that is supplying locally grown products for its casino restaurant.

Quapaw Tribe Chairman John Berrey says the new program includes four greenhouses where a variety of vegetables and herbs are grown for Downstream Casino Resort’s Red Oak Steakhouse.

Berrey says the tribe has also added 140 head of cattle that will be weaned and fattened before slaughter. It also plans to add beehives to make honey for salad dressings, sauces and more.

Berrey says the program will help the tribe diversity its economy as well as control the quality of food sold at the restaurant. He says it will also help create jobs for tribal members.
