Sonic asks customers not to bring guns onto patios

OKLAHOMA CITY — Sonic Corp. is asking customers to not bring guns onto its drive-in patios or into indoor restaurant dining areas.

The Oklahoma City-based company said in a statement that it has historically relied upon local laws to guide how the company addresses the display of guns at Sonic drive-ins. But the company said that after considering the views of customers and employees, it is asking people to refrain from bringing them.

The company says customers should continue to follow local laws when it comes to storing guns in vehicles.

Sonic has more than 3,500 drive-ins in 44 states.

The Chipotle restaurant chain asked customers earlier this month not to bring firearms into its stores after members of Open Carry Texas brought military-style assault rifles into one of its restaurants in Texas.
