Moore awards $19 million bid for Central Park

NORMAN — The Moore City Council awarded a $19 million bid for the proposed Moore Central Park, Recreation Center and Aquatic Park Monday. In November 2012, Moore voters approved  $25.1 million in general obligation bonds to fund a major destination park.

The park will include an aquatic facility, a community recreation center, a farmer’s market and multi-purpose building, an outdoor amphitheater, and a two-mile multi-purpose trail in central Moore.

“We received four bids,” city manager Steve Eddy said.

The bid that was initially the lowest was withdrawn, however and the bid was awarded to Atlas General Contractors for $19,146,000.

“This is just one more step to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Moore,” said Mayor Glenn Lewis.

The base bid was $18,760,000 with trail lighting, sidewalk and parking an additional $298,000 and the farmers market canopy and associated paving $88,000.

Also bidding were W.L. McNatt at $19,900,000, $280,000 and $123,000 respectively, and CMS Willowbrook at $19,900,000, $360,000 and $55,000.

Downey Contracting had been the lowest bid, but asked to be withdrawn citing a miscalculation.

A second proposition passed by voters in 2012 established a quarter of a penny, temporary sales tax that would run from April 1, 2013 to March 30, 2017.

That temporary sales tax is designated for improvements to existing parks.
