Fire engine involved in hit and run

NORMAN — A Norman fire engine was involved in a hit and run Tuesday night after responding to a medical call near Classen Boulevard and East Lindsey Street.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said a fire engine from Station 3 was staged at Braum’s near the intersection at the request of Norman Police Department when they were dispatched around 5:46 p.m. Tuesday to the medical call at 914 E. Lindsey St.

Upon entering the Summerfield apartment complex, a truck tried traveling in between the fire engine and the curb, sideswiping the fire engine’s right side. Damage to the truck is visible but not extensive, and the engine is still driveable.

The truck sped away, turning onto East Lindsey Street, after jumping the curb and striking the fire engine. The vehicle was believed to be stolen, Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley said.

As of Wednesday night, it was unknown whether anyone had been apprehended for the hit and run.
