All-State softball teams play to a friendly draw

Lions, Cats and Jags take field together

OKLAHOMA CITY — The best softball players in the state battled each other to see which side of the state reigned supreme in the Big School All-State fast pitch game. The East and West played for nine innings to try and determine a winner from the evenly matched squads.

However, nine innings wasn’t enough as the all-star game ended in a 0-0 tie Saturday at Oklahoma Christian University.

“The game was good,” Westmoore’s Destinie Lookout said. “We didn’t win. We didn’t lose.”

Lookout was joined on the West squad by Moore’s Jenna Lynn, Caitlin Hall, and Sable Hankins and Southmoore’s Katelyn Brown.

“It was fun,” said Brown. “Not a lot of hitting. Definitely a pitching game. But it was awesome to wear the Southmoore jersey one more time.”

The game was originally supposed to be played at the University of Oklahoma softball field. But due to wet field, it was moved to Oklahoma Christian

University’s all-turf field.

Despite being named the Oklahoma Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, Brown wasn’t the starting pitcher for the West squad. The only player from the 6A state champions took the mound in the fourth inning.

Brown, who will attend Southern Nazarene next year, walked her first batter. But she got out of the inning without any runs or hits being registered.

However, in the first, the East put runners on first and third with two outs. Brown struck out the next batter to end the threat.

Lookout, who is heading to OU in the fall, started at third base, but also played first. However, she went hitless on the afternoon.

Lynn came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and second. The future Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison hit a towering fly ball to left. The ball was caught and thrown to third, where it looked like the runner was caught trying to take the base. But the East third basemen dropped the ball, putting runners on second and third.
