Winter weather advisory issued for Oklahoma

NORMAN — The National Weather Service says freezing rain and ice are possible over Oklahoma during the next few days.

A winter weather advisory was posted for Oklahoma through 6 a.m. Saturday, with freezing rain and sleet possible after a cold front passes.

Readings fell sharply Thursday as winds turned to the north. The temperature fell from 61 degrees to 40 at Watonga within a three-hour period, and at Gage readings fell from 56 to 31 in a six-hour period.

At midday, the temperature was 67 at Tinker Air Force Base just east of Oklahoma City, but 51 at the Wiley Post Airport just north of the city.

The weather service says ice accumulation of one-tenth of an inch is possible in some areas through Saturday, including during this morning’s commute.
