Moore man in custody after leading officers on car chase from Blanchard to Norman

NORMAN — A vehicle pursuit that began in Blanchard early Thursday ended with police stopping the vehicle and apprehending the driver after a wild ride through Norman, police said.

Blanchard police identified the driver as Brandon Floyd, 28, of Moore. Officer Gaetano Cipriano said he began pursuing Floyd at about 8:49 a.m. after catching him going 87 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.

Norman Police spokesman Tom Easley said Norman officers became involved about 9 a.m. The chase included Oklahoma Highway Patrol units and a helicopter.

The vehicle was involved in a hit and run at Porter Avenue and Frank Street just before the driver was apprehended. The driver was arrested at the Norman Regional Hospital Porter campus parking lot shortly after 9 a.m.

Norman police provided the following approximate route for the chase: Eastbound on State Highway 9 from Interstate 35. Police requested mutual aid shortly after suspect vehicle cleared McGee Drive. It was lost in the area of Berry Road and believed to have backtracked somewhere and traveled northbound on McGee Drive.

Police then received a call that the Lexus went through the intersection of Lindsey Street and McGee Drive. The vehicle was later seen westbound on Robinson Street at I-35. It then traveled south on 36th Avenue Northwest, then east on Main Street. Stop sticks were deployed on Main Street at James Garner Avenue.

Police said one wheel was affected by the stop sticks. The vehicle then went northbound on Porter Avenue and hit another vehicle at Frank Street before continuing to the Norman Regional Porter Campus ER parking lot. The driver ran northbound but was quickly apprehended.

Prior to the Norman Police Department’s involvement, Cipriano said shortly after activating his emergency lights and pursuing Floyd, he did a U-turn at State Highway 9 and Highway 62 when a passenger jumped out and took off northbound on Highway 62.
