New Cleveland Co. Election Board secretary to be considered

NORMAN — State Sens. Anthony Sykes, Rob Standridge and Kyle Loveless have recommended Bryant Rains to become the next secretary of the Cleveland County Election Board.

The appointment will be considered by the State Election Board today to fill an unexpired term created when former Secretary Jim Williams accepted a position in Oregon last year.

Upon his approval, Rains will become the 15th secretary appointed to the Cleveland County Election Board.

A native Oklahoman, Rains was raised in Oklahoma City and has served for 24 years at the Oklahoma County Election Board. He’s worked in every department at the Oklahoma County Election Board, including his current duties supervising precinct officials and managing the county's voter address street guide system.

“As secretary of the Cleveland County Election Board, my goal will be to continue the innovation and success of the Oklahoma State election system,” Rains said. “I consider the opportunity to work for Cleveland County and their election board staff to be an honor and a privilege.”

The new election board secretary’s appointment will officially begin Feb. 1.

“I am pleased with the amount of experience Mr. Rains brings to the position,” said Sykes, R-Moore. “I am confident that he will do an outstanding job as Cleveland County Election Board secretary.”

“Oklahoma has one of the most outstanding election systems in the nation, with much of the credit going to the hard work and dedication at our county election boards,” said Standridge, R-Norman. “Bryant Rains will continue that standard of excellence.”

“We’re extremely fortunate to have someone of Bryant’s qualifications and high character ready and willing to put his expertise to work on behalf of the citizens of Cleveland County,” said Loveless, R-Oklahoma City.

Besides spending nearly a quarter of a century ensuring successful elections, Bryant is also a dedicated family man. He and his wife, Cathey, have five adult children, five grandchildren and another grandchild on the way later this year.
