Drug trafficker sentenced

NORMAN — A 32-year-old Oklahoma City resident was sentenced to 13 years in in federal prison Thursday by United States District Judge Joe Heaton for money laundering, drug trafficking and gun charges, according to Sanford C. Coats, United States attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.

Following an extensive investigation, a search warrant  was executed at 2412 SW 78th St., a residence owned by Omero Cordova, and police located multiple handguns, large amounts of cash and marijuana.

Cordova was indicted and charged with distribution of less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, maintaining a drug-involved premises, falsifying a material fact and money laundering.  A jury trial was held in September and, after three days of evidence, the jury deliberated less than three hours before finding Cordova guilty on all counts.

Heaton sentenced Cordova to serve 156 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. This case is the result of a joint investigation including IRS Criminal Investigation, the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Edward J. Kumiega.
