NORMAN — A recumbent bike and trike rally is set for today at Oklahoma Recumbent Road Bikes, 102 E. Broadway in Lexington.
The rally starts at 9 a.m. and will feature nine activities, including rides of eight, 12 and 20 miles along country roads, a bike rodeo where cyclists run barrels rodeo-style and a bend-the-pole slalom event.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. for the rally at the bike shop. Breakfast will be served around the corner at the Senior Citizen Center, 131 S. Main St.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion are joining Oklahoma Recumbent Road Bikes to co-sponsor the event. A poker run for motorcyclists will take place at the pavilion in the park with the first motorcycles out at 9 a.m. The VFW will host a luncheon at the pavilion.
“My customers kept saying we should have something like this,” said Bob Massengale, owner of Oklahoma Recumbent Bikes. “I finally gave in,” he said with a chuckle.
Massengale said he’s expecting to see approximately 80 to 100 cyclists at the event.
The event is open to the public. For more information, call Oklahoma Recumbent Road Bikes at 527-6160.
