Norman will not be getting a Costco, according to a city official.

Darrel Pyle, Norman city manager, said despite the efforts of property owners and city government officials to bring the membership warehouse club to Norman, the company opted to go to Moore instead.

“It’s not what were were hoping for,” he said.

D. Ted Harris, a Costco spokesman, said in an email that the company does not comment on future Costco stores until it is ready to share details about the new location, typically two to three months in advance of a store opening.

Brooks Mitchell, Moore city manager, said the city has not been officially engaged in discussion with Costco and there was no announcement at this time.

The proposed Norman store would have been located off West Indian Hills Road west of Interstate 35. Pyle said the unknown timeframe for a new interchange was an issue.

“Costco likes certainty,” he said.

The warehouse club opened a store at 13200 N. Western Ave. in Oklahoma City in May.
