After 30 years in the industry, Norman High and University of Oklahoma graduate Steve Long is returning to his roots.

Long began as director of industry relations of the energy management program at the OU Price College of Business in November. So far, so good, Long said.

"I love it," Long said. "This program is just world-class. It separates the Price College from the rest of the Big 12 (Conference) and nation."

Long, who has worked for such companies as Enron and most recently PFC Energy, said his father and OU President David Boren both influenced his decision.

"My father always stressed education and it's something I've always wanted to do," Long said. "When President Boren calls, you have to listen. He was very compelling. It just seemed right for me."

Long said he hopes his experience will help the program continue to grow.

"Our students are highly sought after by the industry," he said. "I'd like to add an international flavor and energy finance-- basically, to expand off the platform we already have."
