Power outages caused by last night's storm have forced several closings.
The Cleveland County Courthouse is closed today because of a power outage, according to Joy Hampton, county spokeswoman. The sheriff's office is also closed to the public today because of the outage, she said.
Kennedy Elementary School and Irving Middle School to close for the day, a NPS spokesperson said.
According to OG&E, about 1,700 Norman customers are without power this morning as crews work to fix damage and issues caused by a strong thunderstorm. Another 3,500 are without power this morning in Moore, and 42,599 customers lack power in Oklahoma City.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to restore power to these schools," an NPS statement reads. We will provide additional information as it becomes available."
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of at least 80 miles per hour in parts of the area last night with the large thunderstorm. It also brought heavy rains and some hail.
Only Kennedy and Irving students are affected by the power outages. Every other Norman Public Schools campus will be open today, the spokesperson said.
