The annual All-City Secondary Choir Concerts have been rescheduled for tonight and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. both nights in the Nancy O'Brian Center one week after their original scheduled performances were canceled due to unexpected winter weather.
The South Norman Secondary Choral Festival will perform tonight featuring students from Norman High School, Alcott Middle School and Irving Middle School. It will be conducted by Alcott director Kirk Forthman, Irving director Renee Jerden and directors Stephania Abell and Matthew Johnson of Norman High.
South Norman's concert will feature “Hope for Resolution” by Caldwell and Ivory, “In Praise of Music” by Laura Farnell, “Al Shosha” by Paul Kaplan, Durufle's “Ubi Caritas” and Basler's “Alleluia” with a special performance by Stephen Meiller on the French horn.
The North Norman Secondary Choral Festival will take place Tuesday, March 3 with the talents of Norman North High School, Longfellow Middle School and Whittier Middle School. Conductors will include director Christine Hrubik of Longfellow, director Marcy Porter of Whittier and Norman North High School directors Stephen Ziegler and Jacob Gonzales.
North Norman's concert will feature American folk tunes as well as classical selections. Music by Hector Villa-Lobos, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Susan Brumfield and Vincent Perichetti will highlight the night.
Tickets for either performance will be $3 for adults and no charge for students 12th grade and below. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Both concerts will conclude with the “Norman Anthem” arranged by Jerry Neil Smith and a grand finale sung by all choirs.
