This month's Rolling Stone magazine included Guestroom Records in their charts section. In a blurb called "Local Favorites" (page 136), Main Street's indie music shoppe gained a spotlight for one of pop culture's biggest venues.
Guestroom co-owner Travis Searle said the coverage was "out of the blue," but came about largely because a former patron (whose name was unavailable at press time) who now works for Rolling Stone wanted to give the store some press.
"It's pretty awesome to be included, although I'm not sure what impact if any it will have," Searle said. "Honestly, I was more excited to have an interview published in CMJ." Guestroom has given its top-sellers chart to CMJ for close to a year, Searle said.
The chart listed in RS is as follows, locals are listed in bold:
1. Sonic Youth -- Rather Ripped
2. Evangelicals -- So Gone
3. Six Organs of Admittance -- The Sun Awakens
4. Islands -- Return to the Sea
5. Starlight Mints -- Drowaton
6. Camera Obscura -- Let's Get Out of This Country
7. The Flaming Lips -- At War With the Mystics
8. The Raconteurs -- Broken Boy Soldiers
9. Regina Spektor -- Begin to Hope
10. The Walkmen -- A Hundred Miles Off
The shop, owned and operated by locals Searle and Justin Sowers, will celebrate its three-year anniversary July 20. For more information, visit myspace.com/guestroomrecords.
