If you’ve found yourself without plans as the countdown begins, however, norman etc. has you covered. Our staff has gathered a list of the most talked about events going on in the area as the ball drops.

Downtown Oklahoma City Opening Night

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Downtown Oklahoma City

Cost: Wristbands are $8 in advance, $10 at the event

About: Opening Night is a New Year’s Eve celebration with music, dancing, theater and fireworks. Since 1987, Opening Night has been one of the most popular ways to ring in the New Year in Oklahoma. All performances take place in a safe, family-friendly environment.

Opening Night 2012 takes place 7 p.m. to midnight in venues around Downtown Oklahoma City. This year's entertainment features a variety of performances from some of Oklahoma's brightest stars.

An Opening Night admission wristband allows you access to all venues, all night long. Wristbands can be purchased at 7-Eleven Stores of Oklahoma, metro Homeland stores, Science Museum Oklahoma and MidFirst Bank Locations. Kids 5 and under are admitted free.

Flaming Lips and Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band with Phantogram

Time: 8 p.m.

Location: Bricktown Events Center, Oklahoma City

Cost: $100 one night only, $150 both nights

About: Arguably one of the most popular New Year’s Eve events in Oklahoma each year, the Flaming Lips New Year’s Freakout #5 promises to be even bigger and even crazier than past years.

Due to a history of selling out, this year the show will go on for two nights, December 31, 2011 and January 1, 2012, with concert attendees having the option to purchase tickets for just one night or for both nights at a discounted price. Joining the Flaming Lips on stage will be the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band and special guests Phantogram on December 31, 2011 and Neon Indian on January 1, 2012.

Previous year’s shows have featured Flaming Lips’ lead singer Wayne Coyne emerging from a spaceship in a plastic ball and crawling over the audience, the band filling the arena with large balloons at midnight and every audience member receiving a special lazer pointer in order to participate in the visual light show. This year’s New Year’s Freakout promises to be just as wild. Tickets are nearly sold out, so the public is encouraged to purchase online before the show.

New Year’s Eve $50,000 Midnight Madness Giveaway and Party

Time: 2 p.m.

Location: Riverwind Casino

About: Riverwind Casino will be giving away $50,000 in cash and prizes from 2 p.m., December 31, 2011 to 2 a.m., January 1, 2012. To enter the drawings, participants simply play with their Riverwind Wild Card any time from now until 2 a.m. on January 1, 2012. Partipants will receive an entry in the drawing for every 10 points earned.

Tickets for a special VIP celebration at the casino are also on sale at the box office or by calling 322-6464. Tickets include a picture, party favors, snacks and breakfast at Willows Buffet. Willows will be open for dinner until midnight on the December 31, when it will change to breakfast and be open until 3 a.m. On January 1, Willows will reopen for Sunday Brunch at 8 a.m.

NYE with The Spy featuring Chrome Pony, Jacob Abello and Crystal Vision

Time: 8 p.m.

Location: The Exchange, Oklahoma City

Cost: $50 General Admission, $80 Two is better, $80 VIP

About: New Year’s Eve celebrants can ring in the new year with The Spy radio station in Oklahoma City.

Attendee’s ticket grants admission into a party featuring three local favorite bands, a champagne toast and breakfast bar at midnight.

VIP tickets feature an open bar, with General Admission featuring a cash bar. Must be 21 to enter.

Stat Band Live

Time: 9:30 p.m.

Location: Othello’s

Cost: Free

About: The Stat Band, a five piece band from Oklahoma City, OK with eclectic sounds from the 70's, 80's 90's to the current hits will be performing at Othello’s in Norman.

The Stat Band has performed as opening act for, many major acts and show cases such as Tyrone Davis, KoKo Taylor, Glenn Jones, KC & The Sunshine Band, Young MC, Chris Farley, Chris Rock and many others. Their New Year’s Eve appearance at Othello’s promises to be jampacked with catchy hits to encourage restaurant goers to get up on their feet and bust a move.

My So Called Band “A Very ‘90s New Year’s Eve”

Time: 9:30 p.m.

Location: The Blue Note, Oklahoma City

Cost: Free

About: Norman’s favorite ‘90s cover band, My So Called Band, will be partying like it’s 1990-1999. With a repoirtoire that spans both a decade and a several hour set, My So Called Band thrills crowds with their covers of all the ‘90s hits, including Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”, Green Day’s “Basket Case” and Warren G and Nate Dog’s “Regulate”.

New Year’s Eve Celebration Dinner

Time: 9 p.m.

Location: Sooner Legends

Cost: $20 person/$35 couple

About: The 5th annual New Year’s Eve Party features a Sooner Legends dinner, live music in the Sooner Room, dancing, cash bar, champagne toast and party favors. Room packages include one night stays in a King or Queen room or suite, $40 gift certificate for dinner, home-made breakfast buffet for two and 2 p.m. checkout on New Year’s Day. New Year’s Eve Celebration Dinner

About: The New Year’s Eve Party includes dancing and live music from Dave and the Wavetones. Heavy hor d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee will be served from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. There will also be a cash bar and champagne toast.

Hosty Duo Live

Location: The Deli

About: Deli staple the Hosty Duo will once again grace the stage for a special New Year’s Eve show. The Duo features Mike Hosty on bass drum, guitar, harmonica and kazoo while musical partner Mike Byars rocks the two-piece drums. The show is set to run until 2 a.m., with other Deli favorite, the “Red Cup Special” also scheduled to make an appearance.
