American Indian art will be auctioned by the Payne Auction Company today and Sunday at Danny's Auction Inc. 2728 N.W. 10th, Oklahoma City.

The range of pieces being auctioned is wide and will include pottery, sculpture, paintings, prints, baskets and other textile materials.

Among the sculptors' works up for auction are Sylvia Naha, Teresita Naranjo, Polly Rose, Blue Corn, Elijah Naranjo, Featherwoman, Vickie Martinez, Lucy Lewis and Lawrence Namoki, among others.

Pottery pieces auctioned will be from the pueblos of Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Jemez, Acoma, Zia and Hopii.

Paintings by artists Merlin Little Thunder, Robert Taylor, Mirac Creepingbear, Virginia Stroud will be auctioned. Images of all available pieces can be found on Payne's Web site,

In 1978, Virginia Stroud and Hollis Asnap participated in a local CETA work project. The artists received a monthly stipend, who in turn created paintings for the community here in Norman.

Through the permutations of history and the changes in agencies, this body of work became the property of CSBI last year. It is this collection that will form part of the auction.
