The Wesley Foundation of the University of Oklahoma is gearing up to hold its seventh annual Fore Evangelism Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held Monday at the Moore Golf and Athletic Club. The money raised will go toward the evangelism internship program that reaches out to OU students every year with a message about Christ's love and the lessons of grace, hope and love.

"Our mission at the OU Wesley Foundation is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and to provide a home away from home for hundreds of college students," said the Rev. Daniel Dennison, director of the Wesley Foundation. "By supporting this golf tournament you allow us to fulfill our mission and reach out to hundreds of students on the OU campus."

Last year, the tournament raised nearly $10,000 and the goal for this year is to top last year's amount. Wesley also is expecting 80 golfers to participate in the tournament. The golfers can play either as singles or in twosomes or foursomes. The majority of the funds raised come from the registration of teams. A single player pays $125, twosomes pay $200, and foursomes pay $400.

Registration for the event will begin at 11:30 a.m. for the tournament, which will commence with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. In the intervening hours, the participants will be treated to a lunch that will be prepared by members of the Wesley Foundation. Golfers also will have a chance to hit some balls at the practice range.

At the conclusion of the tournament, a ceremony will be held to award prizes to the tournament winner along with awards for longest drives, closet to the pins, and longest putts. The winners will receive free nights at hotels, including the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, meals at various restaurants around the Norman area, and several other gifts. However, each golfer also will receive a goodie bag containing such items as golf balls, tees, key chains and coupons donated by local businesses.

Wesley also will benefit from the sponsors of either individual holes, the front or back 9, or the entire course. The hole sponsors will have their names and logos printed on the T-boxes. The front and back 9 sponsors also will have a foursome in the tournament as well as the name and logo on all printed materials as well as the front or back 9 T-boxes. The tournament sponsor will have the same amenities as the front and back 9 sponsors, but with name and logos at every hole and an opportunity to address the golfers.
