Back-to-School Night is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, which is an ideal time for parents to meet teachers and other Jackson parents, get the new 2006-07 Jackson T-shirt ($10), add their child's lunch account, sign up for community sports, sign up for PTA membership and get all of the news and upcoming events and more. Also, parents can pre-order their child's school supplies. Then, on the first day of school, the school supplies will be waiting on their child's desk when he or she arrives.
First day of school is 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Aug. 21. Breakfast is provided in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m. for 85 cents for kids (reduced 30 cents) and $1.15 for adults per day. Lunch is at varying times based on the child's grade level and is $1.80 for kids (reduced 40 cents) and $2.45 for adults per day. More information about Jackson's food program is available at www.sodexhoeducation.com. There, parents can find the menus, nutritional information and other important information concerning their child's health. Jackson also has an after school program everyday. The Jackson PTA Web site will keep parents informed of upcoming events, support programs, PTA membership information and volunteer opportunities, contact information and parenting tips. Parnets also can get a copy of the current and back issues of the monthly Jackson Times newsletter and the Jackson calendar.
Norman Public Schools
Norman Public Schools will have a Substitute Teacher Orientation Tuesday. New substitutes should be at the Norman High School Theater, 911 W. Main St., at 8 a.m. The orientation will last until about 11:30 a.m. Those planning to attend should bring two forms of identification, a drivers license and a Social Security card or a birth certificate. Those who do not have one of the above items you can also bring a U.S. Passport.
Returning substitutes, those who were employed as a substitute teacher in the Norman school district in the 2005-06 school year, should be at the Norman High School Theater from 1 to 3 p.m.
All substitute teacher applicants who have a college degree should bring an official transcript. Those who have a current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate should bring a copy of it with them.
