Once a month Journey Church hosts an event known to its congregation as WIRED where families come together for community-wide worship.

Melanie Gladhill, Journey KIDS pastor, said WIRED festivities will begin at 6 p.m. today at Andrews Park, Daws Street at Webster Avenue.

Gladhill said WIRED gives the church a chance to "plug parents into a kid's world" by giving families a monthly, high-energy worship experience. This month, instead of using the church as its venue, the staff decided to host WIRED at the park.

"We wanted a place for families to come and hang out with their kids," she said.

The program will open with food, drinks and games, Gladhill said. At 7 p.m., the church will present a short skit that will teach children about showing respect to others.

"Each month we focus on a different virtue," Gladhill said.

She said before the evening concludes, families will receive a family pack filled with story cards, devotionals, a scripture challenge and encouragement cards.

Gladhill said the goal is to give parents materials that will help them become spiritual leaders.

In September, about 500 people showed up for WIRED, she said.

"It just seems to grow each month," Gladhill said.

She added those who plan to attend tonight are encouraged to bring friends.
