The Crime Stoppers Committee of the Norman Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for two $1,250 scholarships. The scholarships are named in honor of the late John Dutch, Norman Fire chief of 14 years, and Steve W. Cain, retired captain who served with the Norman Police Department for 29 years.

The scholarship program will allow recipients to further their education and training. Eligible candidates are dependents of public safety personnel who work in Cleveland County. Eligible departments include: Cleveland County District Attorney's office, Cleveland County Sheriff's Department, EMSStat-Norman Regional Hospital, Norman Fire Department, Norman Police Department and the University of Oklahoma Police Department.

Applicants must be a graduate from an accredited high school or received their GED. This scholarship program is open to students already in college and to students graduating during the current school year.

Applications are available at all accredited high schools, each of the public safety departments and agencies in Cleveland County as well as the Norman Chamber of Commerce. Applications are due at the Norman Chamber of Commerce no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

The purpose of the Norman Crime Stoppers Committee is to enhance the quality of life in Norman by supporting and complementing law enforcement efforts to prevent and reduce crime and to facilitate apprehensions and arrests.
