Sheriff's deputies said they are planning to provide inmates at the Cleveland County Detention Center with a traditional meal on Thanksgiving Day.
The Thanksgiving Day menu includes turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, pie and cake, officials said.
As of Tuesday, there were 187 inmates in the Cleveland County Detention Center and another 22 Cleveland County inmates in the Pottawatomie County Detention Center.
"Sometimes there's an influx of people who are locked up on the eve of the holiday," said Capt. Doug Blaine of the sheriff's department.
"Sheriff (DeWayne) Beggs wants to make sure the inmates have some enjoyment on Thanksgiving Day," Blaine said. "Obviously the inmates are away from family and friends and may not be too thankful about the situation in which they find themselves."
A traditional meal "may provide a small level of comfort," he said.
