A 71-year-old man died Monday afternoon in a fire on his property in far southeast Cleveland County.

Robert Charles Cook was burning trash on his property on Viking Road off of 156th Avenue SE at about 3 p.m. Monday. His wife, Della Mae Cook, 67, said she saw that her husband was down and she got in her car and honked the horn and yelled for help.

A rural postal carrier heard her cries and called for help. Volunteer firefighters from several departments responded to the scene. The medical examiner was expected to arrive late Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Cook said the couple had been married for 51 years.

The fire is an unincorporated part of Cleveland County. Firefighters from Slaughterville and Noble assisted as did the sheriff's department.
