Holidays bring celebrations, which often involve alcohol, but the Norman Police Department will have no mercy on those who drink and drive.

The department will increase the amount of officers dedicated to alcohol-related enforcement in the city for the holiday weekend, from two to five on patrol.

A representative from the department offered tips to stay out of trouble during the New Year’s weekend, including never drinking and driving, and using a designated driver or calling a cab.

Other tips included calling 911 if a vehicle on the road is recklessly driving and always wearing a seat belt.

AAA Oklahoma is offering a free, confidential ride home and tow to anyone who feels they are not fit to be behind the wheel through 2 a.m. on Jan. 2.

The program, called Tipsy Tow, will be available to AAA members and non-members in metropolitan Tulsa and Oklahoma City, as well as Shawnee, Muskogee, Enid, Bartlesville and Lawton.

Tipsy Tow will take up to two individuals and a vehicle home — up to 15 miles from point of pick-up. Call 800-222-4357 for pickup.
