HOBART — Four Star Leadership with Gen. Tommy Franks announced that Brody Smith, 17, of Noble, George Schroeder, 18, of Norman, and Neal Patel, 16, of Moore, are three of 70 students worldwide who have been selected to participate in this year’s leadership program, set for July 14-19 in Edmond.
Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks is a free summer leadership program that provides students with in-class instruction and mentoring opportunities with national and international leaders.
Smith, a Noble High School junior, Schroeder, a Community Christian School junior, and Patel, a Southmoore High School junior, were chosen due to their demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding character.
They will travel on various excursions across Oklahoma, where they will meet and engage with national and international leaders including politicians, dignitaries and star athletes. They will be confronted with practical leadership and ethical scenarios and then challenged to address them individually in a persuasive speech and writing competition, as well as collaboratively in an Ethics Bowl tournament.
They can earn a portion of more than $30,000 in scholarships, as well as gain internships and receive letters of recommendation.
Program curriculum is designed around the four core principles that led now-retired Franks through his 38-year military career: character, common vision, communication and caring.
“Our leadership program is dedicated to investing in the lives of tomorrow’s leaders and helping them appropriately develop the tools needed for growth in their personal lives and their communities,” Franks said. “We are excited about meeting this year’s leadership class and assisting program participants in achieving their leadership goals.”
