The OU Civic Orchestra is recruiting University of Oklahoma undergraduate and graduate students from across campus as well as members of the Norman community for the spring 2010 semester.

Over the past two years, the orchestra has presented works by such composers as Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, Haydn, Beethoven, Grieg, Borodin and Piston. The ensemble is open to students from all majors as well as OU faculty and staff and members of the community-at-large.

A mandatory orientation and registration meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Catlett Orchestra Room 124. Registration forms will be accepted from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m. Those interested should come to the meeting and decide if they would like to participate at that point. Students can participate on a credit (one hour) or non-credit ($129 fee) basis.

The ensemble rehearses from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and presents a concert at the end of the semester. Players of string instruments are not required to audition; however, their background should include advanced high school orchestra participation. Wind players may be required to audition, depending on the level of interest for their particular instrument. Audition information is posted on the Civic Orchestra Web site, www.cafe.ou.edu/civic.
