Norman police are investigating a shooting death, possibly self-inflicted, that was discovered Wednesday morning.

According to Norman Police Capt. Leonard Judy, police responded to a call at 10:07 a.m. in the 200 block of east Himes Street, after a friend of the victim discovered the body and called police.

The friend, a female acquaintance of the victim, reportedly found the man unresponsive and lying next to a gun, police said.

"The victim's name is not being released," Judy said, but he is a 45-year-old resident of the home where the body was found.

"The case will officially remain open and under investigation until we receive a formal finding by the medical examiner's office regarding the cause of death and circumstances thereof," Judy said.
