The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad crossing at East Gray Street in downtown Norman has been closed to through traffic due to the need for emergency repairs of the crossing by BNSF.

The railroad ballast material and subgrade have settled under the tracks to the extent that the trains cannot safely travel at the desired speeds, the city says. Repairs will begin this morning and are expected to be done by the afternoon.

The City of Norman is assisting BNSF with the street closure of East Gray Street in the interest of traffic safety. For more information, call the City Public Works Department at 366-5453.
