Sewer replacement closes Jenkins

Urban Contractors in conjunction with the City of Norman closed Jenkins Avenue between State Highway 9 and Bratcher Minor Road Tuesday for a sanitary sewer line replacement.

The work is part of the Lower Bishop Creek Interceptor Project, and is expected to take about 13 working days. Normal routing should resume Dec. 22.

Chautauqua Avenue will be the alternate route to the City Transfer Station, the Wastewater Treatment Plant and other facilities south of Bratcher Minor Road. Access to the city's compost facility will continue to be from State Highway 9 south on Jenkins Avenue.

Questions concerning the project should be directed to City of Norman Utilities Engineer Mark Daniels at 366-5377, or Urban Contractors at 478-5370.

Sooners promote violence prevention

Sooners Promoting Awareness, a University of Oklahoma student group, promoted violence prevention in area schools during the fall, including Norman public schools during November.

SPA, which started in August as a public relations class group, works with the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum to increase awareness among educators of the violence prevention educational programs offered at the memorial.

"SPA has worked diligently assisting the memorial in achieving our mission of teaching the impact of violence," said Nancy Coggins, memorial marketing and communications director.
