T.J. Maxx has announced plans to open its 26,000 square foot store in the University Town Center on 24th Avenue NW, north of Robinson Street, Oct. 21.

The company said the Norman store will open with a larger accessories department than a typical T.J. Maxx. About 75 full and part-time employees have been hired.

“We invite our new customers in Norman to come experience our brand and have a ‘Maxx Moment,’” said company spokesperson Sonya Consentini. “What is a ‘Maxx Moment?’ It’s that minute of euphoria when a shopper finds that amazing piece of merchandise at an amazing price. We know that there will be many ‘Maxx Moments’ in our new Norman store, as millions of our shoppers across the country have them every day.”

The company opened its first store in 1977. Besides fashions for the entire family, T.J. Maxx carries apparel for women, men and children as well as giftware, domestics, women’s shoes, accessories and jewelry. The store also will have an educational toy and book department that sells arts and crafts, games, science kits and puzzles.

Company officials said each store receives more than 10,000 new items each week. T.J. Maxx, a Massachusetts-based off-price retailer, operates more than 800 stores in 48 states. With the opening of the Norman store, the company will have three stores in the Oklahoma City area.
