UPDATE (5 p.m.): The jury found Clark guilty of first-degree murder and recommended she serve life in prison with the possibility of parole. The next step will her formal sentencing, which is set for Dec. 13.
ORIGINAL: A Cleveland County jury entered deliberations just after noon today in the first-degree murder trial of Melissa Dawn Clark.
Clark, 47, was charged in July 2016 with allegedly playing a role in the death of 5-month-old Braelyn Zachary, a child left in her care. Clark denies the charge. She has been on trial for about the last two weeks.
If convicted, Clark could face up to life in prison.
