The university has identified the OU student found dead at the Cross Village apartment complex Saturday as 23-year-old Richard Estraca. 

Estraca, of Altus, Oklahoma, was an OU junior, according to a statement from the university. OU did not provide any further details around Estraca's death, noting that the university "will continue to respect the family’s privacy."

"We are deeply saddened to lose a member of the OU family and grieve with his loved ones during this time of profound sorrow," OU's statement read. "It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time." 


UPDATE: 5 p.m. Nov. 9

The person found dead this morning at a student apartment complex was a OU student, according to a university spokeswoman.


The University of Oklahoma Police Department is investigating a death in a student apartment complex, according to an email from the university.

Officers responded to a call at approximately 8 a.m. this morning reporting a body at Cross Village, 1695 Asp Ave. 

OUPD officers determined there was no threat and secured the area, according to the emailed statement.

The state's Medical Examiner's office will determine the official cause of death.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the person until next of kin is notified.

“The University is deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life. University counseling services are being made available to provide support for OU community members,” according to OU's statement.
