UPDATE 9:51 a.m. — Norman Public Schools released the following statement from Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bryan Young, a former principal at Norman North High School, who was a tremendous asset during his time in our district. Bryan was a respected colleague and friend and he will be remembered as a ferocious advocate for students. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the many people in our community who knew him.”
UPDATE 8:56 a.m. — Suspect Timothy Deffner is now dead. He was found dead in a field in the area of Bethel Road and Highland Road in Tecumseh. It is believed he died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
UPDATE 8:49 a.m. — According to multiple sources, the man who was killed Tuesday is attorney Bryan Young of the firm Ward & Glass in Norman. Young was a former Norman North principal. Ward & Glass had no comment for the story.
Ward was representing Cayann Patterson Deffner in divorce proceedings with Timothy Michael Deffner, the person of interest in the homicides. Cayann is, according to multiple sources, the woman who was killed last night.
Young was shot in his home on Trisha Lane, while Cayann was shot at a residence in the 1000 block of W. Lindsey.
According to court records, the Deffners have been involved in divorce proceedings since the fall of 2015. They had a status conference scheduled for Feb. 13 in Judge Jeff Virgin’s courtroom.
Cayann Deffner sought a protective order against Deffner in June of 2015, according to court records, but applied to dismiss the proceedings. Then in July of 2015, she sought a protective order again, and it was awarded by Judge Jequita Napoli.
UPDATE 8:30 a.m. — An active manhunt continues for Timothy Michael Deffner. According to law enforcement, Deffner’s vehicle was found in Pottawatomie County, in the area of Bethel Road and Highland Road in Tecumseh.
ORIGINAL — The Norman Police Department is investigating a double homicide that occurred overnight in Norman.
NPD responded to a reported shooting in the 700 block of Trisha Lane at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, locating an adult male who had been shot multiple times. The man was transported to a local hospital, and later died from his injuries.
A short time later, the Norman Fire Department responded to a residential fire report in the 1000 block of West Lindsey, discovering a deceased adult female who had also been shot multiple times. The police believe both shootings are connected.
Norman Police is asking for community assistance in finding a person of interest, Timothy Michael Deffner, 56. He is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to not approach him and dial 911.
