In a few years, incoming Oklahoma freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler might be protected at the line of scrimmage from a fellow Phoenix-area native.

Four-star offensive tackle Noah Nelson verbally committed to the Sooners on Monday. Nelson attends Williams Field High School in Gilbert, Arizona, about 45 miles from Pinnacle High where Rattler attended.

Pinnacle is straight north of Phoenix about 25 miles, while Williams Field is 30 miles southeast.

Nelson gives OU its eighth commitment from the 2020 class. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound rising senior is a three-star prospect according to 247sports' composite ranking. Michigan, UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State were among his 17 offers.

He is the state of Arizona's 13th-ranked prospect, according to 247.

He's OU's second 2020 offensive line pledge in the past week. Nate Anderson committed on May 6.
