One sure sign of spring is the annual preparation for Norman's '89er Day celebration.

The annual celebration of Norman's early history will feature former city clerk Mary Hatley as grand marshal of the April 19 parade.

Mrs. Hatley retired from municipal government work in January after 41 years of service. She joins a long line of honorees who are selected based on their connection to Norman's history.

The festivities include a wagon train that will come through Norman Friday in time for the parade. Organizers hope to draw visitors throughout the weekend.

The parade theme this year is "Our Next Hundred Years." There is no cost to enter but organizers need to know you're coming. Entry deadline is April 11.
