Acting like adults? That would be a nice change

My first response when I read about Sarah Sanders' remark that journalists should act like adults was total shock. I was speechless, and that doesn't happen very often, at least not about the current state of politics. Yes, Mr. Acosta is a grand stander, and I don't think this theater of the absurd can get any worse, media included. It's like watching a bad situation comedy.

My first thought was that the press needs to just walk away, totally ignore Mr. Trump. But then I thought, no, the country needs to be informed. I guess the second best action to take would be to inundate every elected official, from Mr. Trump on down through even state elected officials with demands to, yes, act like adults. We should also include the main actors in the media who are providing the forum for this circus (strict use of who, what, why, when, where and how and without politically filtered selection of events). That would be a refreshing change, and Sarah could take credit for it. Win-win.

Endorsing Bill Hickman for mayor

I couldn't be more pleased to see my fellow Councilman Bill Hickman's announcement to run for mayor in this morning's paper.

Bill's devotion to detail, intellectual breath and organizational skills have been instrumental in the progress & accomplishments we have seen at city hall in the last few months.

Bill has a definitive plan to fund the Senior Citizens Center, to improve school safety, and address Norman's flooding problems. He has the vision & determination to get it done.

I enthusiastically endorse his candidacy and look forward to him being the next mayor of Norman.

Threatened, endangered wildlife should be protected

Earlier this year, a key Congressional committee advanced four separate bills that would weaken this bedrock conservation law. The same committee also voted to eliminate ESA protections for gray wolves across the Lower 48 United States.

We owe it to future generations to save threatened and endangered wildlife from extinction.
